Man, it’s apparently a lot easier to get a single-name Twitter handle than it has been for me to get rid of one.
It’s helped me to A) have used “Spytap” since I was about 13, and B) that it’s not a real word/name. There are a couple networks wherein I use “Barrett” because I can, but for the most part - even when Barrett is available - I feel more comfortable with Spytap. I think of it as something akin to my “nom de net.”
I really love having a 3 letter nom-de-net. The ONLY things that suck about having “Hez”:
1) some squatter has my name as their UNUSED tumblr (Topherchris, how famous do I have to get before I can JA that mofo back into my own hands?)
2) large numbers of people who CANNOT PARSE FOR SHIT (or tit) and assume I am a dude
3) massive amounts of truncated RTs/ twitterspam from Indonesians with “Hez” in their names (example)
The only things that suck about having CVXN as my tumblr handle:
1) As mentioned above, some squatter has hez.tumblr.com, thus forcing me to dilute my brand. I’m Hez everywhere else. (CVXN comes from my old blog/newspaper column, which was called Civixen.)
2) As mentioned above, large numbers of people CANNOT PARSE FOR SHIT (or tit) and still assume I am a dude
3) People get me confused with this dude or this dude (and then they wonder why I stopped with the cartoons.)
a day? I’m really curious about these @ messages you get.
