Calgary Stampede: A defiant last stand of the politically incorrect
Once a more modest agricultural show, the festival is now best known for artery-killing, deep-fried sweet and salt, daisy dukes, sex, over-drinking, a post-party spike in divorce rates, exploitation of animals for amusement and profit, absence of safety gear, and a gratuitous over-use of stereotypical cowboy-and-Indian imagery — including an eponymous Indian village that the Indians won’t rename.
Stampede is the last stand, a glorious festival in defiance of an otherwise inoffensive country drunk on political correctness.
The only question lingering is how long it can last. (Photos: Calgary Herald; Canadian Press; Getty Images)

Behold, the town of my birth, y’all. You can take the girl out of Cowtown, but you can’t take Cowtown out of the girl!
One of our fav pics with Alexia Fast from our Summer 2012 Lookbook: Zipper Lips cropped top with recycled denim bikini!
Dopeness. (Hard to tell from the pic, but the lips do have a working zipper on them.)
The “Summer Biznass Casual” boozy fruit smoothie I just invented is deeeeelicious! Lots of fresh/frozen fruit (berries of all sorts as well as a fresh nectarine and peach), a bit of juice & plain yogurt, and the key ingredients: ice (not shown), Giffard Violette, Giffard Myrtille (blueberry) and a splash of Summerland Sweets Blueberry Brandy syrup.
The best is when you’re all “this vanilla yogurt is good, but it would be so much better with some fresh berries”… and then you just go outside and pick them.
OH HELL YES, YA GIRL HEZ IS MAKIN BLENDER DRANKS!
This bad boy features a bumbleberry blend, Appleton Estate rum (my grandad’s fave, ICYDK), a splash of Ocean Spray cranberry cocktail, 2 fingers of pomegranate molasses and a handful of chocolate mint leaves… and it is GLORIOUS.
Cuted it up pretty hard yesterday at the annual OPUS Hotel street party (this pic was with my pal Erin, who also gave me the skirt I’m wearing that I opted to turn into a dress)
PS: The star [maybe I should have picked a less loaded colour on Pride weekend, but the other ones didn’t go with my outfit] was actually a raffle ticket.
A few headaches getting launched today, but it was all worth it to finally get some good weather and get back out on the water in my buddy’s boat.
